The successful winning of a tender announced by the Milan City Council in 1999 led to the restoration of buildings (both outside and inside) of the important and strategic Porta Garibaldi monument/complex, one of the six ancient gateways into the city and the two porticoed toll-booth/custom houses that flank it. Since the Salone del Mobile 2008 the customs houses have become the showrooms for Tecno, a historic Milan design company.
